What is a TIFF file?

TIFF stands for Tagged Image File Format. It's a widely used file format for images and it's used by many programs, including Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office Picture Manager, and Apple Preview. A single file can contain multiple images or pages from a document.

What is a TIFF file extension?

A .tiff file extension indicates that the file contains a TIFF image. The TIFF format was originally developed by Aldus Corporation in the early 1980s to store images and documents. As such, it's been around for decades and is widely used. A .tiff extension does not necessarily indicate that the image is in color (although many are), but rather simply that it's an image stored using the TIFF format.

The Tiff format is a widely used image file format supported by all major software applications. The file extension of a tiff file is .tif or .tiff.

Most software programs support this format, including Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, Word and Excel. Some free image editors also support the Tiff file format, such as GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) and Paint.NET (a free image editor).

If you want to open your tiff files on your desktop computer, then you can use one of the following software:

GIMP - An open-source raster graphics editor similar to Photoshop. Supports many types of images including TIFF images. It can be downloaded for free from gimp.org/downloads/.

Paint.NET - A free image editing program for Windows that works similar to Microsoft Paint but has more features and better performance than Microsoft Paint does.
